Hog Splitter Pro is a revolutionary stopwatch crafted specifically for curlers. My mission was to create a tool that meets the unique timing needs of the sport with simplicity and efficiency.

Unlike other stopwatches on the market, Hog Splitter Pro combines all these features into one elegant device.
How it works
- Each time you press the Split button, the main time readout shows the amount of time that elapsed between the last 2 button presses.
- Times are also shown in the history table - 6 rows of times are displayed by default.
- Any times less than 5.5 seconds are added to the left column, and times greater than 5.5 seconds are added to the right column.
- If a "short time" is immediately followed by a "long time", the two will be paired up on the same row. This allows the user to easily correlate the short time and long time for the same shot.
The two top split buttons behave the same way—there are two for ergonomics, not for different modes. Press either one to register a split.
For very long gaps between splits: intervals over 20 seconds are not added to scrollable history (the main readout still updates until the next rule applies). Over 59 seconds between splits, the large display shows a dashed placeholder; the exact pattern follows your main timer precision setting. Details are in the product guide.
There's no concept of a "reset"—just keep splitting!
Hog Splitter Pro features a large e-paper display (the same technology found in most e-readers) that is highly visible from any angle. It comes with a USB-C rechargeable battery that lasts many hours on a single charge - enough to get you through a bonspiel.
Hog Splitter Pro is customizable to meet your needs. You can customize the volume, pitch, and duration of the "beep" (or turn it off completely!) You can choose from 3 different font sizes for this history display. You can even change the level of precision on the display: tenths, hundredths, or thousandths.
Design and materials
Built using a programmable microcontroller with an e-ink display, Hog Splitter Pro is housed in a custom 3D-printed ergonomic design.
Practical notes
As a device developed and iterated quickly for real ice use, there are a few areas worth being upfront about:
Battery life
It lasts several hours—often enough for an entire event—but needs to be charged periodically. For important sessions, start from a full charge shortly before you play.
Durability
Several early users have used their Hog Splitter Pro for an entire season with no issues. That said, extra care should be taken with a manually-assembled device. Furthermore, e-paper display may be sensitive to UV light or high temperatures (for example, leaving the unit in a hot car).
Display refresh
E-paper can leave faint ghosting between refreshes. Most curlers will not find it distracting for split timing, but it is something to be aware of.
Frequently asked questions
How do you reset it?
You don't. Hog Splitter Pro is designed to be stateless with no interval reset in normal use—just keep splitting. (There is a small recessed hardware reset for rare lockups; see the guide.)
How long does it take to charge?
About 2–3 hours via USB-C.
How much does it cost?
Hog Splitter Pro is sold through the Hugs Curling Tech shop on Etsy. The base price is $70.00 USD, and customizations can be added for an additional fee.
